Travis has updated the Subset Sum application and released some test workunits.
As I write this there are 8761 unsent workunits left.

Citizen Science Grid has a new URL ...
http://csgrid.org/csg/

At the moment the old URL also still works.

Citizen Science Grid also has a new sub-project called "Climate Tweets".

The description from the website says ...

The Climate Tweets project is focused on personal opinions about climate change or global warming.
The goal is to sort tweets and view the different views in various countries, how the discussion has changed over time, and how opinions change with political orientation.
Classifying tweets allows us to discover patterns and correlations in people's opinions about our world.
It also helps us understand what people know about climate change.

Also (from the News section) ...

We'll use your input on these to research the development of machine learning algorithms in sentiment analysis, which we hope can eventually automate most of the process.

Some news about the SubsetSum@Home project from Travis Desell ...

QuoteSo some news on the SubsetSum@Home front. Professor Tom O'Neil, the theorist behind this project is retiring this December, which leaves us without a specialist to analyze the results from the project. Because of this, and due to my time commitments on other research projects, we'll be retiring the project for the time being until we can find another theorist who would be interested in continuing this work.

In the meantime we'll be leaving the site up along with all the results we've currently generated for anyone who would like to use them.

Thanks for the info Daniel. another project looks like closing.

Citizen Science Grid (http://csgrid.org/csg/) has some new work for Linux, if that's your thing.

Units I'm seeing are under Wildlife@Home and the EXACT Convolutional Neural Network Trainer.  The latter ones run to about 10 hours on my old i5-2400.

WikiWill

Happy new year boincers.

As of 6 January the credit on this project has improved significantly.  There is work for the "EXACT Convolutional Neural Network Trainer" which credits to Wildlife@Home, and is currently paying a bit of a bonus.

Our team is 25th (http://csgrid.org/csg/top_teams.php?sort_by=total_credit&offset=20) and we're holding position but with 10 or 20 people to add some credit we would be rising!

Dingo

I have added some cores to this project and maybe get another badge....

I'll give it a go.

Tried a while ago and there were no tasks. Many top hosts are Linux, wonder if it's faster than Windows? Will run a few on my MacOS VM currently going to town on DENIS@Home, then compare by doing some on Windows BOINC on that computer. DENIS is oodles faster on Mac than Windows.

Haven't been running any Linux or Mac VMs on the dual socket box, tried it once and the results were disappointing so will just run it there on Windows. Got a big cache of POGS so be a while before it switches over properly.

A badge you say, hmm Wildlife one I suppose:  A well a, bird, bird, bird, the bird is the word. Papa Ooma Mow Mow :jester:

For the young ones who don't remember.

I'm grateful for the youtube link, I was totally lost on kashi's comment!

Looks like WUs have dried up other than the very occasional one.  I hope there's more soon but the project admins are very part time on this one.

Ah yes, was referring to the bird badges.
Nice bonus credit rate, makes getting those coloured birds much quicker.

DENIS@Home has a new application if you want to try something different until Citizen Science Grid has more work. Goes well on MacOS. I'm running 6 cores of it on a Mac VM. And back on POGS on the dual socket box.

WikiWill

Work available again at CSGrid.
Cheers

I am getting some invalids (too many results) and some comp errors. Anyone else seeing this?
:pcwhack:

kashi

I've only had 2 errors so far out of 164 tasks completed. Both errored tasks only ran for under 2 minutes. 54 are still pending though so some of those have the potential to go "Completed, can't validate."

It's always a bit concerning when your processing power results in any errors. At least the generous rate tends to compensate for it in credit terms.

Wow, some of these tasks are long. Wondered why my credit total wasn't increasing a bit faster so had a look at my pending tasks. Hot diggity dog, some gigantors there, one of them ran for 26 hours, haha. Ah well, the long ones have a bit extra bonus credit attached I think, so there should be oodles of credit headed my way if a wingman ever completes them.

Glad my 2 current computers have a decent amount of memory. My old computer with only 4 GB would really struggle with these CSG tasks on all cores.
