haha No, kashi, my "shirt" is powers of ten larger than that.  biggrin But all of this could have been avoided if there was a modicum of intelligence in this world.
We had a very short power outage here today that cost me about 35 hours of crunching as the BU wu's do not checkpoint restart. Bad day all around.
Another 40+C day tomorrow. I think we all have cabin fever ... even the dogs are grumpy.

Well thanks in no small part to the stability 20GH work units have brought,  I finally plugged in the last two Gekko's.  So after doing the hot plug shuffle for a bit, everything now seems to be running surprisingly quite smoothly.  Yeaa me!!!

Mmm doing the hot plug shuffle?  For those unfamiliar with the concept it looks something like this....  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKcsPOLXZz4 but instead replace the flashy dance steps with hair pulling & teeth nashing but othwise very similar.  If nothing else I now have a much better idea of what Dataman's room must look like.

... even the dogs are grumpy.

That made me chortle.
It is true. Yesterday the Mastiff snapped at the Boxer because he blocked the air flow from the air conditioner vent. Hope Karen does not do that to me.

Just another bit of info I've discovered about these Geko's, you can't over crank the voltage.

Basically if you move that little flat bit on the voltage screw to a certain position, the voltage is set at its minimum of 0.55V. As you turn the screw clockwise the voltage increases but once you almost get 360 degrees around, the voltage tops out at about 0.81V then goes back to 0.55V.
Great idea really. I guess it prevents small fires from starting with people over cranking their voltage and burning their house down.  biggrin

On another note, my stuck one is still stuck. I'm not sure its going to do a Lazarus this time.
At least I feel vindicated that I didn't fry it by playing with the voltage....its just dodgy.

All the stars (and Gecko's) must be in alignment. I have a 228 million credit day going at BU and it is still about three hours to the daily update.  ???

EDIT: 228,678,408 ... Not a bad days' work.  biggrin
On a side note, Henri has been strangely absent and no new campaigns have been started. #3 is approaching 90% complete. If nothing new when MW completes, I will shut down. I am not going to run #7 just to fund Henri's lifestyle.

chooka03

I agree Dataman.
I'm not keen on campaign #7 either.

I'm spewing my 3rd one isn't coming back to life

Dingo

Yes I agree, I did some early in the piece but no more, hopefully SRBase (Campaign #10) will start up soon.

Agreed!! We entered into this to help fund struggling boinc projects,  not to make anybody rich.  no matter how many credits they throw our way..    I can handle giving a little bit back now & again to help fund BU ongoing expenses but only a bit.  If there's no more boinc projects or any other worthy science projects that need our help we should do the right thing & pull out until there is.

Dataman

#10 is up and running but I do not understand why there are not many more projects. If I advertised free money, there would be a line 10 miles long in front of my house. Henri seems to be an arrogant SOB.  biggrin
262 million yesterday.  They all seems to be working now but I do not know why. Nothing changed.  ???

I looked into Gridcoin today as an alternative to BU for funding DC projects. It looks promising but I quickly got lost reading the material. Need someone smarter than me to be the tip of the spear.  biggrin  I doubt if BU is going to be feasible long term (could be wrong though). Henri does not appear to spend much effort on it but will not give any admin authority to underlings. I do not mind contributing to #3 & #10 but some of the completed projects (like Mars colonization books) do not interest me in the slightest. I need to figure out how to set up a Bitcoin wallet and actually do mining but first have to define what all the terms mean. I'm lost. Any thoughts on Gridcoin?

Unless it's changed in recent times, it was a condition that you must join team gridcoin. :(

That's why in the last few years they've grown from nothing to #3 team in the world.  http://boincstats.com/en/stats/-1/team/list/0/0#45

Totally missed that. That's a showstopper!!

Ooh not sure how much I will be able to contribute now...... my wife just lost her $&!% at me after she burnt her finger on one of these ASIC heat sinks  :furious:
I just got told I'm getting yet another pay freeze from my greedy US employer and combined with electricity prices, we're starting to struggle.

Maybe once she calms down I might be able to find a solution (disabling all the lights on my pc might be a good start) and getting a USB extension to move this hub up and out of reach for our 3yr old.

Oh boy.......women  ::)
Really not happy.

kashi

Yeh they sure can burn, if you're running them without a fan. :boom:
I got some of those Arctic Breeze USB fans but they're unfortunately too loud to use. Possibly not as loud overall as other computer fans but an annoying penetrating whining tone. So still using my case fan on 4 in hub.

Didn't think Gekkos used much power though. Although don't know how much they actually use. I got 3 more and if I plug all 5 into the hub the last 2 lose connection. Hub has 60W power supply, does that mean each stick is pulling over 12W, that's why it can't cope with 5 sticks?  Electrical calculations are beyond my ken. Have plugged 5th Gekko into monitor connected to old computer for now, any more fiddling with those little silver screws will drive me totally bonkers, haha.

Grr, fancy hub from Amazon as recommended, plus recommended fan from UK and neither of them perform properly.

Hope you can manage to work out a way to run yours without causing too much domestic strife. They're certainly frustrating to get going without problems but pump out the credits at a ridiculous rate when they do work.
