I never thought that I would see the day that windows actually had a Ubuntu Linux in their kernel.....  Look at this if you have windows 10:   https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2016/04/06/announcing-windows-10-insider-preview-build-14316/ http://www.zdnet.com/article/ubuntu-and-bash-arrive-on-windows-10/

I started to have a look at it but after registering as a developer it said that if I downloaded the "Pre Release software"  I might need to reinstall windows if there was a problem so I stopped.  If I had a laptop or a PC that I could only do this on I would go for it just to see what it is like.

QuoteDustin Kirkland, a member of Ubuntu Product and Strategy team, has added that you will be able to run pretty much the full gamut of Linux shell tools such as "apt, ssh, rsync, find, grep, awk, sed, sort, xargs, md5sum, gpg, curl, wget, apache, mysql, python, perl, ruby, php, gcc, tar, vim, emacs, diff, patch, and most of the tens of thousands binary packages available in the Ubuntu archives!"

Besides the Linux shell fundamentals and programming languages, developers should notice that it includes support for server programs such as the Apache webserver and the MySQL database management system. This is a very full Linux development environment that just happens to be running on Windows.
