Hi,
As the silly season approaches, many of us will have some time to spare. So, I thought to myself, what movies can people recommend to watch over the break?

Can be at the cinemas, or torrent download (if you can find it!), or on Netflix, Amazon Prime etc.

I personally like a good sci-fi movie. I especially like the Star Trek movies, but the latter ones disappoint. No Spock etc, and the newer movies rely too much on special effects, and don't have any "funny bits" in them.

Feel free to comment about any genre of movies that you wish!
PC1: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X @3.4GHz, 128GB DDR4, RTX3070, RTX3060, Linux Mint 21.2 64-bit
PC2: Lenovo M700 SFF, Intel i5-6400 @2.7GHz, 16GB DDR3, Intel graphics, Linux Mint 21.2 64-bit

Like the sci-fi as well and miss the funny bits in ST OG.   :BigGrin

Also, try Tubi, it's a cheap version of Netflix with ads.

Well, on Netfix, you have Star Trek Discovery, now in its third season, but I will watch anything thats star trek related.

There was on Amazon Prime, 1 x Season of Picard.

The Mandalorian on Disney+

Now lately its been a bit of a pick and choose, due to COVID affecting the Movie Seasons.  Cannot wait for the next Bond movie though.

Well after all that, didnt give you much, I will try better next time.

Did you end up selling your 48thread cpu system??

Cheers

The Expanse! The first season is a bit slow but it gets much better. The new season is about to start 16th Dec so you can binge watch.

I grew up with Star Trek and am a fan myself but I can't stomach the new series. Star Trek Next Gen would be my favourite series.
I've struggled to find some new movies to watch though.

The Platform on Netflix is a good movie (well I liked it enough to watch it twice) It's not your run of the mill movie plot which i like.

Greyhound with Tom Hanks was ok. Its not Saving Ryan's Privates  :jester: but pretty good. I downloaded that via a torrent.

Ford Vs Ferrari was a good movie if you're into cars. Great acting.

Have you watched Black Mirror on Netflix? Great series!! All different episodes.
The Last Kingdom is a great period piece on Netflix. The wife & I loved it.

I'll let you know if I think of more :)
Personally I can't wait for the next season of the Expanse.

Here is some, I have a strange taste in movies so can't guarantee anyone else will like them.  :jester:

Primer is a good sci fi, although confusing, only had a $7k budget:

Dark Star is an interesting low budget sci fi too, some of the scenes were re-made into Alien:
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069945/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

I like Hackers too, it's very cheesy but has some great quotes:

One of the main actors is also in SLC Punk:
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0133189/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

There is also Galaxy Quest which is a parody of Star Trek etc:

...and of course the is Dr Strangelove:

oh, and as far as Christmas movies go The Nightmare Before Christmas is good (it's a kids movie (sort of)):

Nah, still have the system. I'm about to put in a RX580 video card and see if I can sell it as a gaming PC.

Thanks for the heads up on the Picard series. I have Amazon Prime. (Only streaming service I have. Too many gets expensive!)

Who could forget Dr Strangelove? Classic movie. A lot of the old movies (say spaghetti westerns/westerns in general - I'm a big Clint Eastwood fan) interest me more than the new ones!

Yes, me too, IMDB used to let you easily see the top ranked movies by year, for awhile there I was downloading a lot of older movies.  :wink

I think it's still possible to sort by year, but have to use the advanced search, the user interface used to be heaps better.
