Wow, just hype. Not even ready yet!

Also, note that TPM is a minimum system requirement.

Apparently there are Win 11 free downloads on the internet but I couldn't find one that worked.  People have certainly posted videos of their own installations in use. Linus Tech Tips  has videos. This one post the MS announcement.

I humbly disagree.  :jester: I think this pig has rabies! I checked 4 of my Dell SFF and USFF (e.g. i7-3770S, etc.) Win10 machines and NONE are Win11 compatible.  :shock
Either MS is going to have to support two parallel platforms for a long time or a lot of PC users will be learning LINUX. There are still a significant number of users running older machines running specialized apps (like us for example) and the refurbished PC market is huge (just look on eBay). In light of a worldwide chip shortage this strategy makes no sense to me (but few things do these days  )
I have 23 Win10 machines so I guess I will (eventually) have to check them all and convert the incompatible ones to Ubuntu.

:cry

Addendum: From Tom's Hardware:

"Microsoft told Tom's Hardware that all Windows 11 PC's will require TPM - even if they were built by the user. Additionally, the company has published three lists of supported processors: one each for Intel, AMD and Qualcomm. Notably, it cuts off at 8th Gen Intel Core processors and 2nd Gen AMD, leaving a number of still otherwise good processors out in the cold. It isn't entirely clear if older CPUs that otherwise meet the minimum specification requirements may be allowed to upgrade with a warning."

MS will support Win10 only until 10/2025.

Couldn't agree with you more Dataman. Just shut a website explaining TPM and other Win11 requirements. It will have users looking for alternatives. Particularly considering how cheap some of the older commercial stuff is these days. Can't wait for Dual, 64 core Epyc CPU based systems to be offloaded.  :love
Otherwise, very annoying.

Just for fun, I downloaded an pre-release copy from Pirate Bay. Made a new VM in Virtualbox.

One thing I did notice, was that updates are checked for AND installed during the installation procedure. Oh dear. When you are doing multiple installs, I don't know if you can turn this feature "off".

Wow you are good, jave.  :congrats +1 Kinda looks like a MAC layout.

The only new feature in this release that interests me ( I cannot get real excited about rounded corners  ) is the ability to run native Android apps in Win11. Have you tried to download and run an Android app from the MS store?

Jave, do you have a link? I couldn't find it on the Pirate Bay website.

Are you using an ad blocker? A lot of the download buttons on sites like that are generally ads pretending to be legit. Ad blockers generally clear that up so you can see where to actually download the torrent file (and then open that in your torrent app).

Dingo,

Best clean this thread up, move all requests to Direct messages, cannot be to careful these days.

Might I also suggest to use a VPN before downloading.

Cheers

Meh, Windows 11. I see no reason to upgrade.
I don't know what TPM is but I'll just stick with Win 10 even if it's not supported. I stuck with Windows 7 for years after it wasn't supported.

It's pretty bad if what I read is correct and older PC's aren't supported. That's ridiculous!
You can't FORCE people to buy new hardware.... and I ain't learning Linux!

Early days I guess.

I have a VPN on my machines and phone at home.
