Great. I liked those. Looks to be in good shape. Too bad about the engine but I can't help but think you can find something to drop in there. Enjoy!

I'm seriously thinking about that electric boat motor conversion kit on AliExpress. Then worry about extra batteries latter.

I would seriously look into this before buying an electric motor.  There is a few other things you need as well as the motor and a battery. The add says it's a kit but just shows a motor.  You also need something that can propel your boat.

Dingo: Yes, that's just the motor. The seller also has a heap of other options, including hybrid diesel-electric. The prices are about half what's available here and they're still using parts made in China. I was thinking of using a few secondhand AGM Deep Cycle Batteries to start with. Because they are cheaper and the insurance company doesn't have a problem with them (ie fire). Then later get a bunch of LiFeP04 batteries from an Australian manufacturer. Again, for the insurance company but also for ease of warranty if needed.
The motor is the big ticket item in the kit. The controller, throttle, cabling, etc isn't too pricey.

Jave: I think Eco only makes the small inboard electric motors, like 10kW. The boat needs 50+kWs (about 70hp). Local, EU and US suppliers are charging huge sums of money for them.
I hadn't seen Electric Drive Engineering. A quick look shows a 96kW kit, about twice what I need, will be available soon. Like Dingo's suggestion, it's something to keep an eye on though.

Something I forgot to mention earlier, there's a sailing school next to the shipyard. I'll pop in there and see about some basic lessons. May try to anchor nearby if it's free.

If the link works, this is the Find A Crew website. It looks very active. Hopefully, someone with experience training yachties can be attracted to the job. 😁

Thanks again, Dingo, for letting my family and non-boinc friends have access to this thread. They like it very much.

All the below-water line work is complete but near completion.

However, during the work, I asked for an update on the cost to that point. The yard manager told me high $7,000s so I asked him to complete the job.

Oops, it turned out to be $16,800!!! I had $9,000 on hand, so paid them that. Now, I'm trying to find funding for the remaining $7,800 but getting a loan when I'm on a pension is very hard.

One bank, Bendigo, will entertain the idea but they want to wait a month to see what my spending looks like when I've made the reductions to expenses I said I was making.

So I'm stuck at home for now. The boat is finished and back at Yamba Marina.

At some point, I'll need to look into moving out of my unit and doing something with the things I want to keep. Then moving onto the boat full-time but it will need to be moved from the mooring to a berth. Which will cost more again. 🤦♂️

I'd love to be able to get it to Yaringa Boat Harbour, which is just up the road from here and would solve most of the problems.

Thanks for the thought Pete but I think repaying a bunch of small loans would be too difficult to do.

Still trying to get all my ducks in a row. Which has been a real pain since getting the invoice for $10,000 more than expected!  :banghead

There has been a change by the gastroenterologist to my treatment. Had to go to a nearby hospital, instead of the one about 5 hours away, to get an infusion of Stelara (it looks the same as a saline drip) to start the new treatment.

It would have cost $1,300 if I had to pay for it myself!  :holy-moly Fortunately, it was included, all for free. Sorry, Dataman.

In the meantime, I must keep cleaning up this place and selling stuff. Throwing out other stuff and boxing up the rest to move onto the boat.

I hope it hasn't started growing mould or gathering too much water in the bilge.

Now that the rent is being increased to $730 $760 a week fortnight it'll save me nearly that each week every two weeks to get the boat project moving ahead.

Now all I have to do is stay healthy enough to keep emptying and cleaning this place. It is way better than it was a couple of months ago.

Mike I hope the move onto the boat goes well and that you health stays good.  I was looking at the fees at Yamba Marina and they sure know how to charge.  Did not see that they let you live abourd there though?  Been a long time since I had a boat and it was in Canada and the fees were  alot, lot less than now.  I am old and everything seens to be outrageously expensive to me.

Do you have any solar to charge the batteries or marina power so the sump pumps will be working ?

I dream of having a Berring 65 or a Nordhaven 55 to have as a liveaboard.  I couldn't afford the mooring let alone the yachts themselves.

Anyway hope all goes well.

The mooring is invoiced every four weeks at $509, which is very expensive for little more than a fixed anchor. They do not allow it to be used as a liveaboard, but occasionally, it's okay for one to three nights.

My idea is to get a change-over motor as soon as possible and motor to an area where it may be free to anchor. Though around Yamba that seems very limited.

No shore power is available on the moorings. For that, I'd need a berth costing about $500 a week, which is well outside my budget. There is a work dock I can motor to for short periods.

The boat has four large solar panels and a few batteries but unfortunately, they were disconnected at the shipyard for safety reasons. So the two bilge pumps are currently inoperable, which is a real pain.

I like your choice of boats but, yeah, very pricey and very fuel-heavy. That's why I went for a sailboat. I think those types of boats are also designed better for living onboard.

You could always buy a very cheap boat that needs lots of work and move on board while you fix it up. Maybe not.  :wink
