Quote from: Dingo on January 20, 2011, 02:42:31 PMOn January 13th IBM announced that World Community Grid will receive half of the winnings from a man vs. machine contest on the Jeopardy! game show, to air February 14, 15 and 16, 2011.

I found out about 'Watson' about a week or two ago - absolutely incredible.  Linky

Congrats everyone who added some WCG credit to the Challenge!  We finished a credible 7th of 57 teams!  :congrats

Our top individual scorer was Xerenity, placing 21 out of 3717, and who amassed 80,870 points - which is more points than two thirds of the teams managed!  Dingo and miw also finished in the top 50.  Congrats to you all  :congrats

From Fight Aids @ Home project:

Yes, you are correct. Some of the money that Watson won on Jeopardy! will be donated to two different projects in the Olson lab at TSRI: 1) money to purchase compounds from FightAIDSatHome experiments (so that the best-ranked "candidates" can be assayed in test tubes), and 2) some funds for personnel and a server on which to store data, to help us jump-start a malaria project on World Community Grid. It's a bit too early for us to know all the logistical details yet (such as what % of our two proposals got funded, when the money will arrive, and how long it will take us to launch our new malaria project on World Community Grid). But the ball is now rolling. After a couple years of persistence, we finally get to start our AMFM project (AutoDocking Molecules to Fight Malaria)!!! We'll keep you posted.

Thank you very much for your support,
Alex Perryman, Ph.D.

There are ~15 days of DDDT2 wu's being released today. Also note there will be an extended outage tomorrow for maintenance. Enjoy.

Ooh, missed the start, had WCG on NNW because of funny buffer settings in BOINC 7.0.xx versions. Not to worry, snail badge here I come. :crazy

Looks like the first batch have a variable runtime, 3 are now running and one will finish in about 3 hours, one in 4 and one in 5.
