Rosetta@home is working to determine and design the 3-dimensional shapes of proteins, in research that may ultimately lead to finding cures for some major human diseases such as HIV, Malaria, Cancer, and Alzheimer's (see Disease Related Research for more information).  They believe they are getting closer to accurately predicting and designing protein structures and protein complexes, one of the holy grails of computational biology, and which requires enourmous computing resources.

Rosetta@home is not for profit and has a very active and responsive project team based at the University of Washington.

Minimum system requirements include 500MHz CPU, 512MB RAM, and 400MB disk space.

Rosetta was not running on the four cores of the PI4 as it was running out of memory on Linux.  There has been a application  created to tweek the memory so that is runs.  I loaded it, using all he defaults,  and have not had a problem so far on Rosetta.  zram can be downloaded from here and just follow the directions.

UPDATE:  There is work on Rosetta called pre_hellical_bundles.  When these are run on the Pi only two of the four cores are used ??
