Hi there all you Prime Grid Crunchers,
I don't currently crunch prime grid, I also don't plan on crunching it. I've done a few hours trying to research the motivation of prime hunters and am wondering what the individual motivations of my fellow boinc@austrlia crunchers are.
I will also say that the reason that I don't think I will crunch on this one is that I don't see that it can contribute meaningfully to science.
This is meant to provoke discussion, I'm not trying to denigrate your choice in crunching. Just curious.
Cheers,
Chris.
Hi all, whilst I don't crunch PrimeGrid, I do crunch for Collatz.
Motivation behind that is purely practical becuase I have ATI cards that dont support DP. That limits the choice of projects that are available.
Secondly, I wanted to choose a project that was stable and long-term.
By that, I prefer selecting projects that don't retire within a year and has long term viability.
To me, thats an inidication that a project needs lots of computing power.
I crunch Primegrid because I also have ATI cards and I am interested in Mathematical type projects. I also crunch Collatz, and DNETC because I only have ATI GPU's except for one. I also like the thought that when I find a new prime number it is recorded in an external register of Prime Numbers against my name. Remember it is only the llr work units that find new primes and there is no ATI application for llr. Being the founder of the Team I attach to all the projects that the Team is crunching, usually when they are first created.
