Title: 5.2 Earthquake in Victoria!
Post by: Cosmicvandal on June 19, 2012, 11:24:45 PM
A couple of hours ago we copped an Earthquake!!!!! Relatively unheard of here to the scale of what we had,,,The UHF Cb and emergency services went NUTS,,,In some areas we had busted gas and water mains, and some reports of building and property damage,,,

It was strong enough here to tip the TV over and shake a few things off the shelf in the workshop,,,

We had a few roof tiles shake out of place,,and some car alarms had to be disabled,,,,

My small bungalow out the back yard that sits on a concrete slab with concrete blocks to raise it off the ground has shifted by a couple of inches either way,,,(i measured the fresh scrapes)

Scared the crap out of a lot of people but it seems all ok !

If you want to find the exact epicenter just copy and paste the long and lat into google earth and it will take you right to it

That was the worst one I've experienced. First time I've ever decided to get out of the house but it finished as I opened the door. There was a slight crack in the ceiling plaster and that opened somewhat wider. Didn't notice it until this morning.

This evenings news said it was upgraded to magnitude 5.4 so it was quite reasonable. The frequency of the rumbling, if that's the correct terminology, was much lower than the other three I've experienced. I suspect if it had gone on much longer, there would have been a great deal of damage.
