Here's some new technology people on here might be interested in, Fujitsu's Digital Annealer.
It's marketed as a bridge between conventional and quantum computers. I still don't really understand how it works and the benefits of it over a standard GPU.
One of the listed applications is interesting though, and applies directly to many biomedical BOINC projects:
"speeding up the search of similarities in molecules for drug discovery"
