Title: Bizzare ISP
Post by: Mike Mitchell on August 14, 2020, 09:13:42 PM

My ISP had a problem over the last few days. It got as low as 0.66 Mbits a second and it suddenly jumped to 52 Mbits a second. Oh well, it will slowly drop again.

Is it still dropping really low? I'd complain to your ISP!

It stayed at 52Mb for a while, it's down to about 46Mb which is still okay. It normally bounces around like that for a month or two before it grinds to a near halt.

When I do speak to them nothing happens. They use their own OS support team and they simply don't understand complex problems.

I'm thinking of changing to Aussie Broadband.

Just checked the speed again, it's back to 52.78 ‍ Way better than 0.7Mb

This ISP is just very frustrating.

QuoteI'm thinking of changing to Aussie Broadband.

I'm with Aussie Broadband, after being with dodo for many years. Aussie are good - I get so many emails from them regarding network maintenance etc, plus their phone/email support is much more prompt and courteous than dodo.

That's the sort of thing I keep hearing about them. I think they may the way to go.

I ordered AussieBB last night and the change had happened before 10AM. When I first tried to log in.

Quick phone call and internet was up and running. Pretty good sence support didn't have a diagram for my modem. He did the setup based on my description of the ZTE management screens.

Looks good so far and the speeds are:
PING ms 11,  DOWNLOAD  53.89 Mbps,  UPLOAD 15.99 Mbps.

Which is okay. Let's see what it's like in a few months.  In the mean time, I think I'll miss my free static IP Address.

I get a similar issue sometimes, but resetting the router fixes it, it's hard to know whether it's the NBN or router at fault.

When it played up, I'd do the modem reset but it would only make a difference occasionally. When Exetel did the reset from their end, it would get back the missing performance.
So it was always a battle to explain to their support that I'd done all their tests before I'd called and just need Exetel to do their bit.
It was just a pain.
