Greetings All
Just watched a very interesting and powerful show on NETFLIX, called
The Social Dilemma
It does invite you to think about the effects of the BIG TECH out of Silicon Valley, ie FACEBOOK, GOOGLE and so forth on the social fabric of humankind.
Also there are various other documentaries on this as well.
Just a thought.
Regards
Thanks Tazzduke, I'll have to check it out.
I remember Sacha Baron Cohen speech on social medias reach and huge propaganda and hated based algorithms.
https://youtu.be/irwVRMH04eI
He warned us back then and now we seem to live in an age where Americans democracy seems to be second to the misinformation machine of twitter and facebook. Conspiracy theories have come out of the fringe and now taken hold in the mainstream. Seeing 'Q' protesters in Melb, Sydney, Brisbane, Auckland the last few months shows its reach. Social media has become a unchecked beast and likely the biggest threat we face in this modern age. Challenges like Climate change and now viral epidemics threat levels are exaggerated due to the mass misinformation spread making simple mitigation method nearly impossible to roll out.
So true
Hope this gets more traction and people wake up from their slumber and go, I will not be dictated by Social Media.
Cheers
I've been more concerned lately with the live streaming of suicides and murders etc. That one that was originally streamed on FB and then on Tik Tok was atrocious! So many kids will NEVER "unsee" that.
I find myself using Facebook less and less, mostly because I'm sick to death of being bombarded by advertising everywhere I look. I like FB for the good memories that it shares and that I can see what my friends are doing.......but I'm quite happy to just glance at it from time to time now.
I'm a reasonably heavy user of FB and Twitter. Sometimes, I can get riled up over comments on Twitter, especially political ones. I have to back off, cool down and take a break.
@chooka03: That live streaming of a suicide was disgusting. I have never seen the video, and I don't want to! I'm sure it's on the net if you look hard enough. And yes, you're right, you cannot "unsee" that easily.
Another video that is worth watching is "Planet of the Humans" on YouTube. Talks about our obsession with energy and the push for renewables. Ends on a nothing note, but makes you think - is it all worth it?

The problem for me Jave, was I satisfied that morbid curiosity years ago...... you can never unsee it.... and it now enables me to paint a pretty good picture of Mr McNutt's fate was based on the descriptions I've heard from work colleagues. It's horrible. And for children to be LURED into watching the video on TikTok... what's wrong with this world!
Technology needs to be controlled.
Anyway.....I'll check out that video thank mate
I got sick of the adverts, so i shutdown all my social media accounts.
Most of family in the East, hardly post anymore, i get more emails or phone calls from them.
Its a bit of food for thought.
Cheers
