Hi
I'm having trouble connecting to a remote ubuntu server running boinc from my local PC that is running Linux Mint along with boinc and boincmgr.
On the server (named userver) I've modified the cc_config.xml file as shown below
<!--
This is a minimal configuration file cc_config.xml of the BOINC core client.
For a complete list of all available options and logging flags and their
meaning see: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/client_configuration
-->
<cc_config>
<log_flags>
<task>1</task>
<file_xfer>1</file_xfer>
<sched_ops>1</sched_ops>
</log_flags>
<options>
<allow_remote_gui_rpc>1</allow_remote_gui_rpc>
</options>
</cc_config>
and my gui_rpc_auth.cfg file contains a password.
Now, when I try to add the server to my local boincmgr window under "Select computer..." I input userver as the computer and the password as set before. But I get a blank project screen and tasks screen. I've also tried it with the IP address of the server instead of the host name.
The server is running WCG and only 4 tasks at present (4 core i5-2400S CPU).
Both the local PC and server are on the same network.
Where am I going wrong?
You also need to edit your remote_hosts.cfg file on the remote machine ( /etc/boinc-client/remote_hosts.cfg ) and add the machine you're going to access it from.
Or use BOINC Tasks

Yes I added both of the IP addresses (just to make sure) on both machines. Still doesn't work.

Well, now that you mention it.
I only thought BOINCTasks was for Windows, BUT there is a Javascript version that I installed and eventually got running.
Trick was to allow a range of IP addresses from my local PC to the remote server in the FIREWALL - ufw and to make sure that the port was correct!
So now all is working - both in BOINCTasks and in BOINC Manager!
