Just fair warning to everyone im on the hunt for number 1 at GPUGrid. I may even get it. So fire up those GPU's before i come storming through. :rocks
was that the sound of gauntlet leather I heard hitting the ground ? ? ?
GOOOO Clownus !!!
I have little doubt you'll get there Clownius. No contest from me with my single 9800GT card.
But WS could still get there before you overtake him...
come in OzLotto
come IN OzLotto
COME IN OZLOTTO!!!!!
be the only way I'll beat anyone...... but a couple (or four) of I7s with three 295s per box........... and I'll accept the challenge Clownius *grin*
Only 2 GTX 295's in my box atm. Dont know where id get a PSU big enough for 3. Ill throw the GTX 280 into the mix as well hopefully tomorrow if i find time. The gauntlet is thrown down.
Hi everyone,
I have been away for the past 11 days and returned to find 6 of my boxes offline  however they are now all back up and running - and Clownius, I am ready to pick up your gauntlet! biggrin
I managed to pass one million in GPU Grid while away too (though will mention that in another thread). :wink
Sounds like this could get interesting not to mention great for the teams credit. Let the games begin.
Edit: Moved into number 4 for total credit and number 1 for RAC (although there's nothing in the top 3 for RAC). Sorry Dingo looks like your next mate and then a long hard chase if i want to catch WS who's about to move into number 1.
Edit2: Looks like im really gonna need that GTX 280 working too.
Gratz to WS for his move into first position at GPUGrid an awesome effort. Also gratz to Dingo who appears to be holding off my charge with ease. Be interested to know what everyones using to produce their current numbers.
Mines a pair of GTX 295's and soon to include a GTX 280 in my server if i ever get around to fixing it.
Mine's a lone 9800GT producing just short of 10k a day. Hope to add a GTX260 later this week (it's on order). That's about the best I can do without upgrading power supplies (fingers crossed!)
And yes, congrats to WS for taking the lead!
Thanks. biggrin Now that I have all computers running again I hope to be able to maintain 30K plus each day in GPU Grid, at least until the MW app becomes available.
I have 4 GT9800s and a GT9500.
Clownius, does your GTX295 do two work units at once, or does it just do them really quickly?
can anyone tell me how to get a GT9500 and aGT9600 running (an being "detected" by boinc as a cuda device.) without losing my screen resolution please?
both of these boxes use to have the cards detected, but I couldn't get anywhere near niormal screen resolution.. once I "worked out" (still dont know how I did it) how to get my screen res back, the cards aren't seen by boinc.
I have 6.4.5 on all the Ubuntu machines
In the menu: "system- Admin- hardware drivers"..one of the machines"'sees" a few nvidia drivers and asks if I want to install them, but then it just sits on "0 %" forever, whilst the other machine just says "no restricted drivers in use".. without saying if any are available...
I know you've been struggling with them for some time Veebee but I have no answers. All I know is that my 9800GT works, as long as I don't reboot it. (If I do, I have to set it all up again, including the overclock which I can't do remotely... Grrr!)
on the machine which DID allow me to select/ install drivers, I just did..driver 180.xx and still "No cuda devices found.
I mean OK, Im climbing up the ladder in theteams F@H ranks, but they dont show up in BOINC like GPUgrid points would... :furious:
Restart BOINC after installing the driver. And use the recommended driver (which may not be 180.xx)

Single 8800GT here, so no real threat to anyone :jester:
I decided to be sporting and turn my computer off last night..... OK it crashed and i still cant find the problem *sigh*. I do know restarting a WU after a pause (for example to play a game) is a very dangerous thing that often crashes everything..... I also ended up with random failures this morning trying to boot up after i gave up last night. Then it just decided to work without any reason....... I hate Vista!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
get rid of vista. go oldschool xp or win7
win7 will scream on ur box!!

How do you get it to complete the work before deadline? I tried my 8800GT on GPU Grid but it barely got halfway through a work unit before deadline! Mind you mine is only 256MB - perhaps yours is 512MB?

Yes - 512MB (or at least that's what BOINC says it is). Usually get one or two WU's done per day
http://www.gpugrid.net/results.php?hostid=28308
I have a 8600GT with 512MB Ram which takes about 2 days to finish a wu & I've never had one go past deadline ???
It looks like 512MB is fine but 256MB is not up to the job.
XP is sadly no longer an option as i dont have a 64 bit copy. Win7 well im currently beta alpha testing Vista for M$ ill be danged if i test a pre-alpha Win7 for them too lol. IF i wanted unfinished products id use an Alpha Linux. In fact when i was using Kubuntu 9.04 alpha it was much more stable than Vista is lol.
Edit: I just went a little silly and overclocked the #### out of my GTX 295's. Either i will now move considerably faster or crash and error a lot. Ill have fun finding out
Finally managed to sneak past Dingo today but WS is leading a very firm chase i may be settling for number 2 here.
I am glad I have a bit of a lead over you as you are racing up awfully fast with those 295s. :shock
I think i just hit the wall. Fans now running at 70% full time to maintain overclock....... considering 75% min fan speed. Must move computer into bigger case i lost 16+ hours today due to a crash last not and not getting things working again till now. Airflow restricted is one last reason i can think my computer crashes, wont restart and then is fine the next day.
Edit: Good news after boosting the fans to run at ear shattering levels im now stable crunching 24/7 until it crashes again so im pulling the big numbers im gonna need to chase down WS.
OK WS there is seriously nothing in the chase atm. Just how many computers do you have crunching and whats your secret? For someone who claims you only have low end cards your pulling 60k a day. Thats basically what im pulling with a pair of GTX 295's and a GTX 280. Is it that Linux or 'doze or something gets better credits?
I have four 9800GT cards, one 9500GT and what I thought was an 8800GT 256MB which could not complete WUs before deadline, but have since discovered it is only an 8500GT, but with the longer deadlines available now I think I can JUST get it to complete a WU before the 5 day deadline.
I also had an old video card fail, so after picking up your gauntlet I replaced it with a GTX285 - at least $400 cheaper than a GTX295, and completes 5 WUs per day. biggrin :yahoo:
*picking up gauntlet and backing off ............... FAST!!!!!!!!!!!*
Wow thats a nice little cattle station you have going there. Excellent idea on the GTX 285 those things haul. Im currently getting around 4 tasks a day per core depending on the WU. Some of the new ones push 8 hours compared to my normal 6 hours each. Those anyone else have any experience comparing this but my GTX280 seems to be faster than my GTX295's even though the 295's are running a higher clock Im thinking this is either a bandwidth issue (4 cards vs 1) or a Linux is quicker thing. What does everyone think?
Edit: Oh the chase is really on now too i moved into second by total credit so now its a good old fashion chase. I wonder if i can fit a GPU into my toaster here lol. I need the credits.
I have finally gotten my 9600 and 9500 to work with Boinc, AND achieved proper screen resolution, with the help of Mike047.
I have posted the "full instructions" in another thread in this section.
So now, I have a GTS250, an GT9600 and a GT 9500 on the team. No where near your firepower Clownius, but it'll do me.
A big thanks to Mike ! and +1 of course !
I followed mike047's instructions from the start and have not had any problems, so obviously his advice works! biggrin
I managed to muddle through most of it on my own and with WMY's help solved my last problem. Next stop the i7 once i move it. Linux seems to be a fair bit faster from the work my GTX 280 is doing in it so its worth a try as i need the credits to hunt down WS lol.
Well as is obvious by now my main rigs been in bits for ages now. Haven't had time to do all thats involved in moving it to its new home in my CM HAF 932 case. Simple stuff like running all the cables behind the motherboard tray is real time consuming and now i cant seem to fit my res into it so i need to order more stuff to finish the job and find time. Happily the build is now 95% done and should be up again soon. Ive really missed running my gaming PC on GPUGrid.
The reason i decided to start alkl this when i didnt have time to do the job quickly was Vista had windows explorer issues and was crashing ever 20 seconds anyway so either way id be out of the game lol. I love Vista ::)
