Have been trying to install the 9600GT on iGnatious, since the 9500GT DID work. albeit slowly.
However, having changed owner of the libcudart to boinc, I tried to go back to the 177 driver. to see if that went better.
Now, I can't install it as there is a screwed up 180 driver 'bit' what won't be removed nor will it allow itself to be overwritten. Heaven only knows what driver I am using though.
Can this be fixed "easily" or should I just bite the bullet, finish off all jobs in Boinc at moment and then re-instal from the disc I have.
*mutter mutter.... grumble brumble* Oh and guess what..... the 250GTS is doing GPUGrid in The Gnat. Talk about ......... :hbang: :hbang: Bashhead
Furlozza, try the following: (assuming you are using Ubuntu)
* Activate Synaptic by going to System >Administration>Synaptic Package Manager.
* In the Quick Search Window type: Nvidia.
* Right click on Nvidia-180-Kernel-Source and mark it to Remove.
* Do the same with all other Nvidia Kernel Source but in the case of Nvidia-173-Kernel- Source mark it to Reinstall.
* Click on Apply and on completion of action Restart.
Linux is not that different from Windows as regards Drivers are concerned. The old drivers should be removed first before a different version is installed otherwise they might not function as intended...
Thanks Pete
Shall try that in the morn, when it is a bit warmer (hopefully)
