Post by: Vajras on May 11, 2009, 06:02:21 PM
Hmmm....http://www.storyofstuff.com/

""The Story of Stuff," a 20-minute video about the effects
of human consumption, has become a sleeper hit in
classrooms across the nation, though not all are fans."

Since i posted this this morning, it has become the most e-mailed story of The New York Times today!!!

Quote... So far, six million people have viewed the film at its site, storyofstuff.com, and millions more have seen it on YouTube.
More than 7,000 schools, churches and others have ordered a DVD version...

A Cautionary Video About America's 'Stuff' (http://a%20cautionary%20video%20about%20america's%20'stuff')

Yet here in Oz we are still arguing about the merits of "clean coal" or not or the CPRS or the.. and so on - sheesh, now words fail me how most people - just - don't - get - it :shock

PS see if you can spot the BOINCAHOLIC's dilemma in the movie  biggrin

A lot of it is true, though some of it sounds like a conspiracy theory :)

But there definitely are dilemmas in there for BOINCers.  How many of us have more computers than we need, and bought them for BOINCing?  How many of us would, without BOINC, have quad core computers (or better) and high-end graphics cards?  How many of us would keep their computers running 24/7 without BOINC?

Rhetorical questions of course...

WMY... conspiracy theory??? Basic economic theory actually *grin* Production equals demand.... okay. production more than demand... Bad. Production Less than demand .... Bloody Good!!... where's me next Rolex.

Demand equals consumption.... means you and me buying what is made. And no, without BOINC, we'd all probably be quite happy with one puter.... and not be so much into the latest and greatest.... as in back in the 90's (computer-wise).

Yes, it is aimed at yanks (know a few that should watch it, but have my doubts about them so doing)

Gee..... is my political leanings showing?? biggrin

She is over using "Positive Re-enforcing" or what we here in Australia call, "Patronising". She also speaks of government as if it is not the people but in the USoA that may be the case due to national apathy.

Very little supporting evidence but the main thrust sounds quite pleasing. Makes me wonder if it is just too pleasing. Much of what she asks for already exists here.  :aus1:

Still, we can do more. Maybe changing to low energy lights? Oh, wait, we're already doing that.  :wink
