Title: calling all cores...
Post by: veebee on May 22, 2009, 07:57:41 AM
a problem...

I am running the manual sieving on one of my q6600's and the i7.

There has been a constant dribble of "Pirates" WU's the last few days, and the i7 had around 6 or 7 WU's sitting there ready to go, so I paused the sieving work to get these pirates WU's done, plus a cpl of straggling Primegrid WU's.

here's where the problem arose.... only 4 WU's would run... instead of the usual 8.

I have checked the prefs in a few projects, and did find that WANLESS was set to  4 cpus max for some reason. Changed it to 8, and all others are at 8 or 16 (default).

I also checked cc_config file, bu tthere is no mention of  no of cpus etc in them (I thought there was SUPPOSED to be... ie: N cpus + 1 for GPU work)??)

I have updated those projects with  the correct prefs but makes no difference.

When I update the WANLESS projects, messages says "limit cpu usage to 4", even though ALL pref profiles there are set to 8/ 16...

any ideas?

Oh, the psieving (manual) was using 8 threads...I hope it does when I turn it back on....

Have a look at global_prefs_override.xml and global_prefs.xml and see if either of them have one or both of the following line(s):

<max_cpus>4</max_cpus>
<max_ncpus_pct>50</max_ncpus_pct>

Also look for it in client_state.xml
