Welcome back Simone, the place has been a bit quite while you've been away.  :wavey2: Have you been on an extended assignment?

Okay, we have a new forum because the company that ran the old one went broke and the owner disappeared.
The format of AA's has changed a bit.
Dingo's got a new girlfriend.
I got married.   biggrin
Someone got a job!! But I forget who.
A group of crunchers left us and started another team - some have come back, we're too hard to forget.  :wink

Thanks guys.

Q: Have you been on an extended assignment?
A: It's called real life. How dare it get in the way

With all the photo editing , dreamweaver programs etc the laptop & pc just didn't like all these memory hungry things. Something had to give. Still debating on reinstalling. If I do will be crunching just one & that will be Seti.

The PSU in the pc needed replacing. Seem to go through a lot of these

Okay, we have a new forum because the company that ran the old one went broke and the owner disappeared.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v632/sgcooke/Smiles/Angry5.gif) Oh not nice.

The format of AA's has changed a bit.
Noticed & familiar with the SM layout. Run my brother's forum with it.

Dingo's got a new girlfriend.
Guess Dingo's been feeling lucky then  :wink

I got married.
    biggrin
Congrats. You do know you get less for murder these days ?

Someone got a job!! But I forget who.
Thats great.

A group of crunchers left us and started another team - some have come back, we're too hard to forget.   :wink
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v632/sgcooke/Smiles/Piratz.gif) Arrrgggg a mutiny. Makes life interesting.

Heya Simone !! good to have you back on the forum !  Your name came up a couple of times when we wondered where peopel went after the forum change !

As for the mempory hunger of boinc... just set it to run "after 10 mins idle" or so... so it waits until you have stopped working before kicking in, and stops as soon as you touch the mouse or make a keystroke.

Glad you're back.

Hello Simone, and welcome back :)
Title: Re: Ok I'm here ...

Really starting to peev me right off here. Have set to run "after 10 mins idle" stupid thing doesn't run. Still thinks I'm active & this is on both pc & laptop. So what should my settings be ? Either in Bonic Manager or in pref on web.

I've tweaked them all & stupid thing still doesn't want to run unless I select "While computer in use" (& yes i hit that update button in manager after every online tweak)
Running ver 6.6.28

And thanks Onyx

Simone, make sure you set  it , in "Activity" menu, to run "based on preferences"... and make sure you have clicked (in Advanced) "read prefs file".

Vee, (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v632/sgcooke/Smiles/wink.gif) checking all that. Though hard to tell if 'read local pref file' is selected or not.
Time will tell i guess

Nope, still doesn't want to play nice
Title: Re: Ok I'm here ...

I just tested it on mine, and if you set your "Advanced" > "Preferences" > "Processor usage" to "x" minutes (have you "deselected "while computer is on batteries" and " while computer is in use" ?), and;

"Activity" > "run based on preferences" selected, then;

in "Advanced" menu, click "read local prefs", it will run it as per your selection.

if n ot, you have probably missed some selection somewhere...

Yes have checked all that several times.

Proc usage to 5 mins, deselected batteries & in use, even turned off screensaver.

If I've missed something I cant find it.

Two long shots:

1) Change the defaults at the project websites and then do an update on both puters, or/and
2) reboot BOINC and see what the messages say about 'reading settings'

It might be that you have some process running that is interpreted as activity. Try setting the wait time to just one minute instead of 10, have BOINC on the messages page, and if it does not kick in after 1 minute have a look in your process list and see what is running that might be affecting it.

The above is from the laptop, & ive done the 1min thing & watched. No go. Remember this is happening on both.
The pc was reformatted couple weeks ago, before I put a new PSU in & I haven't put much back on.
Only thing that both have running is avast

Post by: veebee on June 02, 2009, 08:14:26 PM
Hmm.. might be AVAST.. I started using it after reading a lot of good reviews etc.. but it caused too many probs for my partners liking. (and mine... "John... whats this ?"... John... what do dI click here?" etc etc)

and those times where "Anti virus programs may interfere with this program functioning properly.." it usually did.

try switching it off just for the purpose of testing...

Well stuffed if i know. That didn't work either. Nor did an uninstall, & a troll though registry & reinstall.

Turned on "while computer in use" to get @ least some seti units done. PC has Einstein running.

Forget that turned it back off, was getting too hot & burning my leg

i'm not sure how deep you like to run your queues or how you run your laptop, but seti is having a problem with getting data from arecibo at the moment...you might want to set your queue deep as insurance against lack of work...just in case...
