Hi everyone,
Dad just finished loading Ubuntu 9.04 64 bit on this laptop he gave me. He also just put 4 Gb of DDR2 667 RAM in it (it had 512Kb of DDR2 553)
He TRIED to put Windows 7 trial version 64 bit which he downloaded ,but it wouldn't finish installing.
He also then tried to install 64bit Vista which Swampy sent us... it wouldn't install either.
Dad downloaded Ubuntu 9.04 the other night as well, and IT is the only one which worked - he said it's a sign that we should use Ubuntu !
So I have now got Climateprediction going, plus Primegrid and Milkyway... but I will concentrate on Primegrid for now mainly.
Ethan
Jolly good :)
I'd stick with ClimatePrediction and Primegrid. Mlkyway was better on Windows last time I ran it (although that may have changed)
Yeah, thats what I told him yoda.. just leave a climate model spinning around and run primegrid the rest of the time - except for AA's.
I had to send one of the laptops I bought from the online auctions back to Acer for a warranty repair.... it wouldn't boot up (and did a cpl of whirring sounds and tried twice to boot then shut down..) not even anypower to the screen.
I googled the problem and it turned out to be quite common... :furious:, but luckily it still had 3 months warranty .. the other one (Also anAcer Aspire but with 1.5 Ghz C2D) is running perfectly.
"Basset Boy's" one is the AMD Turion 64 X2 I used to use... but I put 2 x 2 Gb DDRII667 in it... should handle climate models etc pretty easily now - it used to be bordering on not enough RAM at times...
