Just for laughs I asked Google Maps for driving directions from Sacramento California, USA to Perth, Austrailia. It routed me to San Francisco then to Hawaii, Japan and then Austraila. Each time you cross water it says, "Kayak across the Pacific Ocean." Anyone up for that? :jester:

Thanks for the laugh. Tempting, but a bit out of my league. (that plus a bit of Mozart (ABCFM now if anyone is interested) are a good mix)
+1
Yeah, I've done that before and it told me to swim. biggrin
Thats funny! Perhaps if you are going East the current is with you and you can swim. If you are going West it is against you and you have to paddle. biggrin
I just tried it from just north of Sydney to Chicago and it told me drive to the Northern Territory, kayak to Japan, drive on heaps of toll roads there, kayak to Hawaii, then kayak to Washington. :)
So yes it looks like kayaking has currently replaced swimming Google maps preferred method of crossing oceans.
My estimated travel time by car/kayak is 14,224 mi – about 55 days 0 hours. :shock That must be an Olympic class kayaker. biggrin I'm starting out tomorrow ... someone in Perth leave the porch light on for me. :jester:
Perth?!?! That's a long way round. :wink
