Wondering if anyone else was listening to the count down?
75 have been played and that leaves top 25 to go and most of these could fall into the "popular classics" wood pile.
If on Twitter, enter #classic100; or go to http://www.abc.net.au/classic/classic100/ (http://www.abc.net.au/classic/classic100/) and just be astonished at what has and has not made the list so far.
In this home, our ears are glued full time :wiggle: - and one of the bonuses/funniest things to it is listening to listeners comments who ring in to throw brickbats or bouquets - nearly as good as some of our trolls and flames and pom pom wavers we get here :wink
"As well as the Message Board you can also leave your feedback about the countdown by calling 1300 304 677 or send us a text on 19 777 236. Please include your first name and where you're from in your message."
laughed out loud with this one:
"I had trouble watching Schindler's List thinking "Why is Shostakovich in a concentration camp?"
And was intrigued to discover today that a past Prime Minister's [PJK] favourite composer [Mahler] has finally made an appearance, starting in the 30's :shock now that's good!
And Mahler's 5th is yet to come, not to furget 6 Beethoven, a couple of Tchaikovsky (damn, shoulda just typed Piotr, but some folks would have been more confused  ) and maybe an unfinished work as well.
Just hope:
a) no neighbours complain (cause when Piotr's 5th was played had to turn up the volume to properly hear the pizzicato movement and as soon as that finished race for the remote to decrease the volume before anyone complained [and I went deef]) as the final movement began with a glorious explosion of sound) and
b) reception has improved (bloody towers what surround me affect reception and don't know where to put the antenna)
Oh... and bugger.... furgot that the "Skippy" special was on telly tonight.... decisions..... decisions...... decisions :hbang:
I haven't been listening but I do enjoy a good symphony. I can't afford to see the SSO play these days so I might have to tune in instead!
Doh, totally missed it :hbang:
...but I am going to see the Australia Brandenburg Orchestra in Sydney this Saturday
Well, we are up to number 23 (Mendelssohn's (sp?) 4th (Italian ... YAHHOOOOO!!).
Last one for tonight..... 3 more sessions : 9.05AM to 5.00PM and 8.00PM to 12.30 AM tomorrow/Saturday and then the 9.05 to 5.00 session on Saturday.
So, tune in folks.... I'll be there, although wish I could go to MElbourne for the concert.... but them's the breaks
Keeping an ear out too..
Enjoyed the Shostakovich 5 very much
Well, another night of awesomeness for the #classic100. I will be outside in the garden most of tomorrow so the neighbours are going to have to put up with it too :wink
Was one of those who didn't vote. That was due to inability to just get 3 Symphonies. BUT Tchaikovsky's 4th, 5th and 6th made it, as did Mozart's 25, 40 and 41; Mendelssohn's Italian and Scottish; Beethoven's 5th, 6th, 8th and 9th and Schubert's unfinished. See? try and get that lot down to 3 Oh and did I mention Dvorak's 9th?
And that's it for another year *sigh* Now, where's my recording of
@ the Furry One - Am actually surprised you managed to find the time to do any listening whatsoever - if ABC Classic ever gives an award for the most Tweets during the Top 100, you'd win it hands down :penguin:

My daughter's classical education began with Saint-Saëns this morning - and she really liked it! I hope that's a good sign. She also danced along to The Doors this afternoon so she might follow my musical tastes. I can hope but I doubt it biggrin
WW
Sounds like your daughter is going to have eclectic tastes. Glad she enjoyed the Organ Symphony, since it not only appears in the original "Babe", but also the organ part has also been used by a group for a song that made it into the top 50.... gawd knows when, but after my teenage years *grin*
As for The Doors...... oh yeah, bring it on LOL
