my Boinc has stopped working, no longer shows any projects, or data on previous work.. tried to reinstall but no avail.
running VISTA Home Premium X64 and BOINC 6.10.18
Latoof:
I see you are crunching SETI and CPND. Please restart BOINC then copy your messages from the message tab and paste them here. We will try to help you.
thanks for the reply... I am running BOINC on 4 systems and all but 1 are OK so I am perplexed.
I first noticed that the taskbar icon showed it want not connected to the internet..
I restarted the app an now it is in a perpetual "reconnecting to client" state.
the strange thing is that there appear to be no projects linked, no disk space allocated to anything, and no messages in the message tab. In fact I cant even run the CPU benchmark in the current state...
I am running on VISTA X64 Home Premium.. could a recent MS update have killed it?
Hi Latoof, a windows update is unlikely to have that effect.
I had a similar problem with Boinc on Linux. The GUI would load and then nothing. I found the fix was to run the boinc client in command line, with no GUI and the messages stream in text mode. This showed that Boinc did run ok, so I stopped that and when I fired up the GUI it was back to normal. I don't know if the Windows client can do this but you could look in the program directory for something like "run_client.bat". If I get time I'll check later today.
there is a boinccmd.exe file, I have played about in a CMD window and still trying to get the syntax of the various commands right...
I get "can't connect to local host" for most commands I issue...
No it's not boinccmd, that's for issuing individual commands to a running Boinc instance (eg attach to a new project).
First, make sure the BOINC service is stopped. You can right click My Computer to get in to the management part where you can see services. Stop BOINC service if running.
Then go back to your command window, and run:
C:\program files\BOINC\> boinc.exe
This should display some stuff about starting BOINC.
Is boinc.exe actually running and it's just BOINC Manager that will not connect? Sometimes when I have a lot of tasks in my cache my tasks tab page in BOINC Manager goes blank. When that happens I go to Windows Task Manager and in the Processes tab page find boincmgr.exe. Then I right click it and click End Process. Then I start up BOINC Manager again.
Doesn't happen too often now with the BOINC version 6.10.25 I am currently using, but a previous version of BOINC did it more often so then I used eFMer BoincTasks (http://www.efmer.eu/boinc/boinc_tasks/) to control BOINC. I don't use it now because it uses a bit more memory than BOINC Manager.
This is probably not directly related to your problem, but if boinc.exe is running and it is just something wrong with BOINC Manager not connecting then you could possibly use BoincTasks instead until you can fix it.
Uninstall BOINC. It will get rid of the executables and any config. It will leave all the work and projects stuff there. Then install the latest stable version. I had this once and the un install re install fixed it. Good luck.
I have tried the uninstall reboot re install to no avail... :compbash:
@VeeBee thanks for the PM..
@ Kashi... the Boinc Manage cannot xconnect to the host and all project info seems gone, the disk usage pie is a big black circle att... :furious: tried to make eFMER work but alas no sucess...
I just uninstalled 6.10.18 and reinstalled 6.6.38 and all seems normal again.. Bashhead
Thanks to all for your ideas and assistance. :aus1:
