Title: The relentless march of technology
Post by: Mysteron347 on June 15, 2010, 02:12:13 AM
Since the new TV channels appeared, there's been a greater than prior frequency of interesting-programme clash.

So I went up to the local grocery store for some more video tapes today. Same story at the second store......

something i have seen done, if you are short of tapes, just go to a swapmeet or clearing sales and pick up some tapes with movies on them and tape over them, they work in the same way that the old cassettes did, there should be a small square indentation on one corner that when inserted, an arm drops into them to prevent recording on that tape, just drop a piece of normal household clear tape over the hole, insert, and hit record, works most of the time.

It's a thought...picked up "Delicate Sound of Thunder" for $2 from the local "Salvage" store (end-of-line hardware oddments) last week. The downside is that pre-recorded tapes tend to be strange lengths.

I avoid the two major chains - both engage in unfair trading practices, and I tossed in my contract with one of them in consequence of their duplicity...

That leaves 8 independent grocery stores in my vicinity. One is run by a self-proclaimed "smart operator" so that leaves 7. One is is little far out of the way, and none on the other 6 have had tapes since I started looking.

As for the $2 stores - I've tried Red Dot (A WA $2 chain) but they didn't have any - referred me to another shop which eventually found a box in their storage shed. At $5 a throw, they may as well have stayed there, too.

Eventually found them at $2 for an E180 at the "Reject Shop" so I have a few.

Just saying "They's getting scarce..."

Wish I had have known you were after them BEFORE we moved here.... I threw away at least 50 "Blank" VHS tapes and probably twice that many from Readers Digest with their docco's on them.

Will have a look if I happened to keep any.

Originally I thought you were making a "joke" about looking for Video tapes....  :blush1:

Thanks for the offer. I have two Beta VCRs - I believe one of them still works.

Found a local $2 store selling them at $2 for an E180, so I have a dozen pristine & ready. Then I realised that I have more than a dozen sitting on top of the TV having recorded a show that I'll get around to seeing one day, then I'll be able to re-use them.

OTOH, if I haven't seen what I've already recorded, what's the point in recording even more??
