Title: "unread Posts" problem .. again
Post by: veebee on October 23, 2010, 08:29:28 PM
Don't know if anyone remembers the problem when we first moved over to this new forum site, but there was a period/ problem where "no new posts" came up when you clicked "show new posts".

Its been going for a cpl days now for me.... when I click ""show unread posts" I get the message that there are none, yet when I click "try ALL posts", I get posts which have been made SINCE I last checked in....

anyone else having the same problem ?

The only way that happens to me is if I visit then don't look at any posts that are there a leave the site.  Whenh I come back there are no posts to see because there were none since my last visit.  There are posts that I have not read though because I didn't read them the first time.  If that is not the problem I am out of ideas  :pcwhack:

Veebee, I'm seeing this as well today, on both the computers I regularly use.  At some point I will try logging out and back in to see if that helps.

I leave the maintenance of the forum and the web page to Wang and his staff.  If Wang visits there maybe an update or something he can do ?   I am not seeing the problem.  I am using the standard/ default theme for the forum, are you?

I'm using the standard theme as well. I wouldn't worry too much about it Dingo. The new posts can still be found. It may be something as simple as the current cookie and a deleting the old, or even a Control-F5, might fix it.

I am still having the same problem.

Have been "off" for over 24 hrs and still get "no new posts" etc.

Tried F5, Ctrl-F5 ... no changes.

and there ARE new posts as the list that comes up when I click "show ALL messages" etc has new posts from only a few hours ago.

will try logging out and back in.. but cannot remember my password ....   :blush1:

OK, I give up. The boxes do not turn blue any more and can only see new posts by scrolling "recent threads".  :cry2:

I have been having "network problems" in that a while ago, when going back and forth with exetel trying to sort out the atrocious speeds here, I ended up with no WEP security/ password anymore - and when I tried to "activate" / put in a password, it was very problematic.

Have just bought a new ADSL 2 + modem/ router as we are moving to TPG soon, so I thought I'd have a go at putting a password on this old one again.

Took a while but got it working (after working out (sort of) what a hexidecimal password etc is and went out Thursday night shopping with three of our computers happily working away through the now secure network.

I changed the name of the network from "Dowjac Bassets" to Dowjac Bassets Wireless" simply so I could know WHICH network I was working on whilst trying to put that password/ save/ restart modem etc.

Anyway, got home at 9.30 - none of the computers were connected, "unknown network" etc etc , couldn't even get to anywhere to put IN a password , couldn't even connect to the modem (via cable or wireless) to see what was happening.

Tried power cycling etc and thought I'd try rebooting my main machine - sure enough, a minute or so after rebooting, it connected (this machine is connected via a cat5 cable) to "DOWJAC BASSETS" - which I had "overidden" by changing the network name (ooh - maybe I simply created another ??) and now it works !...
swapped (on the KVM) to the other i7 (wireless) and it is now working (on Dowjac Bassets Wirelss !!) as is the other wireless machine ..

Got no idea what is happening, but I think I will delete all networks/ network "data" from all computers when I crank up the new modem/router.

and, BTW, when this computer rebooted... guess what ????? I know have a functioning "see latest posts since you last logged on" button !!!!   :dance2: :dance2:
