I am updating my linux pc using YUM. I have to install and update a bunch of files and it came to over 600 MB. So I started the update and it got to the 362 update which was to Installing: kernel ################### [ 362/1046]
As you can see there are another700 odd to go but the process has stopped after installing the new kernel. The curser is just sitting under that entry and has been for ove 4 hours. I have a question in on the forum but they don't wake up for another five hours or so.
Anyone know what to do ??
Should I reboot the PC and hope the new kernal works and then do the yum update again ??
Just cntr C out of where it is and to the YUM Update again ??
Some other action that you know of ??
I don't use Yum but with apt-get I'd take note of the files that are yet to be done, abort, reboot, force install the file it failed on, then restart apt-get and make sure the correct number of files were still being updated.
Even when some files are missing I just keep doing updates and eventually it installs them all despite my screw-ups.
I let it sit for eight hours and then I aborted and did not reboot because I may not get back in again after reading posts. on the Centos forum.
I have kicked off the YUM update again and it is downloading another 200 MB. Hope it all works as it is my web server and it was a pain to get running with FFmpeg and other stuff that I knew nothing about.
I have it updated now not without some thinking of " Holy Sh** I have lost the lot". When I rebooted after the update it did not boot cleanly. I had to go to the command line and ran YUM Update again and found there were some i386 programs that were causing problems since the Linux version is 64 bit. After removing the offending software ans downloading another 200 mb of updates and installing all was well.
Although it is still using the old Kernel and not the new one that downloaded ??? ?
