Title: Folding@home Computing Power
Post by: Daniel on March 22, 2020, 02:04:13 PM
Folding@home has had a large influx of new users due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Recently Dr. Greg Bowman (the director of Folding@home) announced on Twitter ...

QuoteAmazing! @foldingathome
now has over 470 petaFLOPS of compute power. To put that in perspective, that's more than 2x the peak performance of the Summit super computer!

The Summit super computer is in the United States and is ranked #1 in the list of Top500 supercomputers below ...

I just read that they've passed another milestone.

From Folding@home on Twitter ...
QuoteThanks to our AMAZING community, we've crossed the exaFLOP barrier! That's over a 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 operations per second, making us ~10x faster than the IBM Summit!

That's a big number.

Yes, truly an impressive number. Wondering how many will keep doing it. BOINC has only ~3.5% retention rate (result in last 60 days). I wonder what it is for F@H.

I am getting a constant stream of wu's now but can only do 7 GPU's and 44 threads or else my network gets I/O bound. Even then I have to pause everything so we can watch a film.

Stay safe mates.

B@A gained another world position to 179.  v:

EDIT: That did not last long ... now lost two positions and are back to 181.

I started up my 2 X 1660TI GPU machine and have started Folding as well.  Could not get the two to get work for a while but they have two wu running now.  https://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_list.php?s=&t=43781

I have to turn it off while I sleep as it is too noisy to keep it going as I need it to be dark and quite to sleep.

Just a shout out, is there anyone on the team that is still actively crunching Folding@home???

No need, found the stats site that shows the stats.

Hurricane is still leading the charge.

What is a current world position these days? I love medical GPU projects so might attach some on my cards back to F@H

Gday turbo0

Going off the stats from the link from Dingo's post, the team is currently 383 in the world.

Myself is 24th in the team rank, but 111,247 project rank.

I also see that you still hold 4th in the team rank, but 6,911 project rank, wow

Out of the 107 registered for the team, only 7 have returned a result in the last week.

Currently 380 in the world. Up 3 ranks the last week. I see Cruncher Pete has also joined the team over there and outputting some big daily credits.

With GPUGrid not having any work most my GPUS are switched over to F@H until more work come available again.

We Just pasted 5billion credits and are up 12 more spots to 368th in the world, but more importantly we overtook our Boinc nemesis SETI.Germany

WOW Turbo great numbers!!  :holy-moly
I might convert one of my SFF to F@Home.

Any difference between a windows or Linux build for F@Home?
Does F@Home add to our boincStats or is it a separate thing?

Folding@ home is a non BOINC project so the stats do not appear in the BOINC stats anywhere.  They have their own stats page.  https://foldingathome.org/statistics/?lng=en

There is also one that shows the Team Stats. https://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_list.php?s=&t=43781

When you configure the Application you need to know the Team id which is 43781.

I have not run Folding on Linux but they have a page on how to install from command line https://foldingathome.org/faqs/installation-guides/linux/manual-installation-optional-advanced/terminal-installation-for-debian-mint-ubuntu/?lng=en

There are also tutorials on how to install on Linux and how to install the drivers etc for NVIDIA like this one  https://www.prowaretech.com/articles/current/information-technology/linux/setup-and-configure/folding-at-home-linux-server#!
