Title: new options now for this project
Post by: Dingo on June 22, 2010, 11:02:59 AM
From the Freehal web site:

QuotePlease read: New applications and Credits at Freehal
June 20, 2010
There are two different ways of running Freehal now. You can choose whether you want 'non cpu intensive' (NCI) or 'cpu intensive' (CI) workunits.
CI's run about 1 hour or less with 50 MB memory, depending on your computer, and you get between 15 and 90 credits for it, depending on your benchmark results (whetstone/dhrystone).
NCI's need about 4 hours with 1% to 2% CPU usage and also about 50 MB memory.
For a NCI you get as much as for a CI workunit, but because NCI's need 4 hours and CI's less than 1 hour, people get less than 25% of CI credits when they run NCI workunits.
CI workunits: up to 2500 per day <-> NCI workunts: up to 600 per day

The URL has also changed on the web site with the sddition of www in the URL>   http://www.freehal.net/freehal_at_home/

Once selected, how do you make the Boinc Manager download the extra work unit(s)?  ???

When BoincManager next contacts the project it will pick up the change in the preferences.  You can also use the update button to update BoincManager.

Yeah, I hit the update button several times. I'll wait a few hours and see what transpires.

Yep, that was it. When the work unit finished, it downloaded two new ones.  biggrin I'm a happy cruncher. Plus one for the assist Dingo.

Just check my account wondering why I haven't received any credits for the last 24hrs crunching under the new "non cpu intensive one work unit per core" i.e. 8x on the i7. All the units that were in "pending" have disappeared without trace, :(, only showing the currently ones that are crunching. May have to watch this project a bit closer for a while,,,

(edit) My problems were fixed overnight & crunching beautifully again :D

May be time to set the project to "no new work" until it's fixed. Tobias is having a hard time at the moment.

Non cpu intensive one work unit per core, seem to be working fine for me.  :pcwhack:

Getting credit here now as well. Wouldn't you know it, when I let the work units on two computers finish, they both returned credit.  :shock
Figures, missed all the credit for a heaps of work, maybe 10, then when I halt the downloads, the project starts giving credits again.

I have no idea how long I was sitting 767,217 but at least long enough to remember the last three digits.  :hbang:

Only lost about 20hrs+ (x8) which was in the "pending credits" subsection before setting the "no New Work," with 8 still running.
I was very pleased when DC stats reported an increase in the morning,,, and don't think the donation of 20 euros had anything to do with it,,, :D

FreeHAL will stop sending Workunits for 6 months
December 05, 2010

FreeHAL will stop sending Workunits to your Computers for the next 6 Months.

I'm currently in the High School and will do my Graduation in Spring 2011. Thus I won't have much time to spend with the FreeHAL@home Project.

So FreeHAL will probably have just a few or no Workunits at all for your Computers during the next 6 Months. Of cause the Project servers, the Settings, Credits, the Forums and all that stuff will stay online and will always be available to you.

Starting in June 2011 the FreeHAL Project will continue. I was hoping that this Decision could have been avoided but as I won't be available to solve issues the next Months, i think in that way I can avoid problems and issues to rise and remain unsolved.
