Project Update

[Dataman]

Noticed very few of us are active at NFS and I had never run it so I put some CPU's there. Better than average credit and it is not a CPU Hog. Seems to run ok with BU.

EDIT: Received 3 badges on the first day.

New badges.

I see there's now - NFS@home (15e small) & NFS@home (16e small)

Edit - Massive memory hogs!  The 15e's are around 420Mb/wu and the 16e's around 600Mb/wu.

NFS put out this message but the project was down when I went to look.

[NFS@home] And we're back!

The NFS@Home server was unexpectedly caught up in a campus network reorganization. That knocked us offline for a bit over a day. There may be brief outages over the next few days as we get everything settled again, but we are mostly back up with a new IP address. We apologize for the inconvenience.

[NFS@home] CUDA-based GPU sieving test
A new GPU lattice sieve for NFS, cuda-sieve, was recently released. A new app has been added to NFS@Home to test this. Currently, it's only available for nVidia Ampere or higher GPUs running x86_64 Linux. Once the code stabilizes, additional platforms will be added.

NFS has a snazzy new web site.  Not sure if this is the new BOINC one or a NFS mod at this stage.

[NFS@home] GPU sieving
Work has progressed nicely on the GPU sieving apps based on cuda-sieve. Linux and Windows apps are now available for NVIDIA GPUs, with support extended to Maxwell (such as the GTX 970) and newer GPUs with at least 4 GB of GPU memory.

For AMD, the code has been ported using HIP, and a Windows app is now available supporting all RDNA-based GPUs (Radeon RX 5000 series and newer) with at least 4 GB of GPU memory.

If you have a supported GPU, give it a try!
