What version of BOINC are you using?

Hi,

I'm currently using Boinc Manager 6.12.34 on Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit as it's the easiest one to install from the Boinc download page (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php).  The newer versions don't contain certain files and therefore are trickier to install. (Well, that's what I remember from previous attempts.)

My question is - is it possible to upgrade to a later version while still keeping all my config files etc and my current Boinc project?  I was thinking of installing Boinc via the "Ubuntu Software Centre" but the user reviews weren't that flattering!!

Hi Jave good to see you posting mate.   Unfortunately my knowledge of Linux is feeble to say the least, but many of the lads have experience & should with a bit of luck be able to help.

Good Luck  ..JN..

Hi JugNut,

Yeah, my knowledge of Linux isn't that great either.  ;D  Hoping someone with more knowledge may be able to help me out.

As for posting, well, I'm more of a "lurker".... LOL

There's nothing wrong with being a "lurker" my friend.  You can learn a lot that way.   :wink

Hi  Jave,  I am using 6.10.58 on Linux because I cannot use the more current ones with my version of Linux which is CENTOS 5.  I only have glibc version 2.5 which is fairly old and it stoppes not only BOINC from running but also some of the projects.

If you have a newer version of Linux such as Ubuntu 11 or 12 then you should be able to update to the latest Linux BOINC version without any problems.

One good think about BOINC is that you can install a new version and if it doesn't work you can "remove" the new version and  install a previous version and usually all goes well.  Linux of course is not as user friendly as Windoes but I have done it on my version OK.

Good to see you posting

Hi Dingo,

I've just tried to install and run Boinc 7.0.28 after I zipped up my BOINC directory (version 6.12.34).  It started up okay and everything seemed fine but wouldn't let me connect to a project??  So I cleared the BOINC directory, unzipped my old backup file and am crunching again.  :coolgleam:

Will stick to version 6.12.34 for now - it works!
