Nice one D_W, it's one I know little about. (there's a heap alright & growing all the time)   How you finding it?   Are you getting plenty of WU's? (work units)  How long do the WU's take to crunch each?

I had a look at that site in your link it looks pretty interesting, didn't know about all the sensors! I'll check it out latter when I have some time.

Any prob's, don't be shy just ask, you'll find the guys here are top bunch of blokes and always willing to help if they can.  The team events (AA's) can be fun to once your settled.  There's no judgements here on how much or little you do.  Just try to have fun with it & let us know how you go

Oh & be careful too you might not believe it now but Boinc can get in your blood.(in a good way)

All the best ..JN..

@ Screaming Eagle: you'll be a old hand in no time Ben....

Radioactive@HOME its a project created by members of Boinc@POLAND" I'm a member of this team all my projects I'm crunching for this team besides RADIOACTIVE (first time I'm nr1  in country  biggrin ). I'm Polish living in Sydney since 2003.
Great thing about this project its a non CPU intensive project(), to run it you need a detector().
How long do the WU's take to crunch each? Detector is collecting samples for X amount of time before reporting it to server  You can set it in options for how long it will do it.  Application runtime Valid range is 0.5 to 48 hours.
I hope it does make sense to you

Cheers

I got to say again, that's seriously interesting stuff D_W.   I never realised there were such projects.  Thanks for filling us in.

We may have to add it to our main list.  The only thing is your the only active member in the entire country!

I gave the site another once over & will defiantly be back to look into it a bit more.  Can I ask how much the detectors are?   Or can you build them yourself?  I see you have to join then order them in advance.  Although very interesting i'm not sure how well this would do in Oz.  The thing is, at least at the moment radiation is not considered a real problem here. Unless you live in Lucas Heights that is :wink. (test reactor)

I must admit i'd love love to measure the radiation in my room, I sleep inch's away from a large HDTV, 3 Desktop PC's, a laptop, Multiband router, multiple mobile phone's, 2 X tablets, 3 x Game Consols, & wireless devices left & right & this is just in my bedroom.  It's a wonder why I don't glow in the dark.  And this sort of thing is becoming the norm.  I must admit to being curious if all these radio waves & energy & EMF's (electromagnetic fields) is causing all the cancer in our society & i'm certainly not the only one.  The sickness of the 21st century perhaps?  At least in 1st world countries.  The 3rd world may have the last laugh in the end. Not exacly the same thing i know but..

Anyway, thanks again it may be very interesting to give it a go.    I wonder what the other team members think?

Cheers ..JN..

P.S Mmm I wonder why I have gigantic power bills ???

If your god with soldering iron it is possible to build it yourself.
Here are couple links to schematics.
 1) Old type which I'm currently using.
http://www.boincatpoland.org/smf/radioactivehome/dokumentacja/
 2) New one, only thing it's in polish (google translate-can help) go threw all 4 pages pay attention to "ryszard.korczyk" posts.  I have to WORN you there is a high voltage on the detectors board 400V 2) Please wait for 1 minute after the power is switched off to allow the capacitor to discharge and DO NOT touch the internal wiring within this period.

If you have any problems please let me know.

I have ordered 3 detectors, in October I'm flying to Poland (holidays) I will pick them up so in November I should have 3 free to giveaway for our team members.

Thanks for the info D_Worms.   I don't think that building one myself would be wise.  Especially given me being all thumbs, translation problems, & dealing with high voltage ect.

But i'd definitely would like give it a go.   What are the dimensions of the box in the picture?  its hard to tell.

Anyway thanks for keeping us informed, and all the best on your upcoming trip.   Let us know when you get back.

Cheers ..JN..

Dingo

I am using Chrome as a browser and I have found it great.  When you bring up a web page that is in a different language it asks if you want to translate and the translation is very good.  I am all thumbs so will not try this but I remember seeing posts from people in the Team that can do this type of stuff.

If you think you can build one of these, safely and cheaply let me know, I would like to have one.   Maybe you can make a couple of $$ from us Team aMembers  :wink

@Dingo, I havn't used Chrome in quite some time.  Thanks for the suggestion.   It's gotta be easier than the way I tried it.
Personaly I think this may be fun to try.   Kinda give my boincing the hands-on feel maybe.    Anyway we'll see what happen's.
