Project Update

That is what my driver says it is as well, but if it failed it might not be working??  If Zadig said it failed, I would have rebooted the PC and tried to load it again.  It took me a lot of time to get mine working. What is the amp output of the power supply you have.  I saw that Dataman had one that was only 6 amp and it did not work, all mine are 12V 7.5 amp output.

Hi Dingo,
I did try restarting after all that and I must admit.... in the 30min that that I was out, it appears that it finished the WU  :fingers
Seems to take a while for your work to update so I can't see the run time when I check my tasks. I'm watching the next 20GH/s WU now. 16mins so far with 12.33% work complete.

As for the power lead, I scored a spare one from a PC here so it's the same as a typical PC power cord 10A according to the plug. The one I got with he miner says 6A at the plug.
I've probably tried about 10 times to load the driver in all with failure message each time.

Edit - Ah ha! The WU just finished. About 22min somewhere there... guess it must be working?

Yes, I looked up the U3 on an obsolete web page. The new ones shipped with a 12V 7.5A PSU. They were also $35 USD in lots of 10.   Now they sell for $100+ if you can find them.  :faint:
I am still playing with my $5 "bargain" U3. With a 7.5 amp PSU I can now get Win10 to recognize it as an unknown device. Still cannot load a driver though but it is a step forward. Like a "high maintenance woman" they take a lot of effort to keep them happy.

@Chooka: Looks good. My best ones run in ~25 min. and the others from 55min. to an hour and 15 min. Looks like you have a good one at 22. min.

Chooka good that it is working and the time is good as mine take from 25 minutes to over an hour for the new one.  It was stopped again this morning so had to hot boot the bloody thing and off it went again after a while.  It has been the most expensive one that I bought as I had to get both cables and the power supply as well.  I need to get another powerd USB hub to get the other Gecko back running and jave the Geckos and the U3's separated.

Keeps our minds busy all these computer things.  :compbash:

Yeah my U3 needed hotplugging this morning too....but I'm not complaining too much. At least it works! v:

It's funny.... I spoke to Sidehack about my Geckos....he said because I "overclocked" them without extra cooling, that's why they died. I said I must have gotten awfully lucky with the current operational 2 I have because they haven't missed a beat ;)
He said he'd fix them for me if I allowed for freight and some parts. I replied with OK... but how much for parts and confirm the return freight?...............No response.

I wonder if I called his bluff with the offer of help. :jester:

I hate having 3 dead Gecko's in my drawer and I would consider having them fixed... the biggest killer though is US freight. It's crazy expensive to Aus post. (or even Croatian post as I've discovered) Going by the post code he gave me, it would be about AUD$15 to the US. A lot more to get them back I think.
DM - Did you look at freight costs from US to Aus? (4510)

No, didn't look further. My quote was a FedEx box 1/2 kg. FedEx envelope would be cheaper. USPS envelope would be cheapest. You can look here and enter your info. But remember the USPS can lose an elephant and break an anvil.

:yes I Got a new powered hub to separate the Geckos and the U3's.  Had a dick of a time getting the U3's to be recognised but eventually after installing the drivers again they now work sort of.  The new one is still not kicking off at the start and tries and tries for work and produces lots of line of zeros.  To top it off the Gecko that I had unplugged since I got the U3 does not get recognised by Windows 10 or  Zadig any longer.  Tried for over an hour with different things plugged in from all to just that one with no luck.  :cry

So I have a dead Gecko and a U3 that works sometimes.  The U3 still hasn't started crunching and it has been 30 minutes but I hope it starts after the software gives it a hot plug signal  ??  :banghead

Hi Dataman,

That link was the one I used to. When I bought my Geckos they came in an envelope. Still...when I type in the weight and postcodes etc, it's still ridiculously expensive. $63.50 USD!! I'm surer Holybitcoin didn't spend that to send them to me.

As for my U3, it's just plugged into a spare USB port on my mobo. Seems to be doing fine.

I still have one U3 that does spinns it's wheels and does not do anything except use power and time.  I have been looking for somewhere that I can Identify which U3 it was.  Although I still don't know which one it is on the Hub, I think it is the latest one, I have been able to find a link between the BOINC Manager device # and the slot.  If you look in the slot there is a file called "init_data.xml" and inside that there is the following reference which I believe is pointing to the BOINC Manager device.

<gpu_type>miner_asic</gpu_type>
<gpu_device_num>4</gpu_device_num>
<gpu_opencl_dev_index>0</gpu_opencl_dev_index>

EDIT:  Murphy's law kicked in while I was writing the post the U3 started crunching numbers, just takes a long time to start working.  Losing 30 - 45 minutes before it starts is better than mot working at all I guess.  :fingers

Because it kicked off processing I saw when it finished and I could confirm it was Boinc Manager Device # 4.   :BigGrin

WOW .... Just noticed there are only 131 people generating credits daily for Bitcoin Utopia.  :holy-moly
148 people with weekly credits.

Maybe they shouldn't have knocked GPU's on the head?

I am not pleased with the performance/efficiency of my U3's and I am shutting them down today. Over the next 2 weeks I will be making some BIG changes to my mining operation. The result after the change should give me ~ 2+ TH/s.  :boom:
(Hint: I bought a 5-tier rack and I will be consolidating the rockminers and replacing the U3's and Gecko's with ........ snicker, snicker.)  :wink

You really are getting into it, good luck with the new farm and  :holy-moly 2 Tb a day is HUGE.   :bravo

Are you guessing chooka?  or has DM let the details slip?

OK, since you asked ...  :BigGrin

2 x these:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=677056.0

"El Diablo" will have:
3 x Rockminer New R-Box @ ~110 GH/s each
1 x Rockminer R4 @ ~ 500 GH/s
2 x Rockminer Rocket RK @ ~480 GH/s each
13 x Gecko Science @ ~1.6 GH/s each

4 x Raspberry Pi crunching Collatz
1 x Server i7 980 (w/ 2 x EVGA GTX 970)

I do not know if I will restart the U3's. Testing their wattage at the wall I found they waste (as heat) a lot of electricity converting 110V to 5V/7.5A.

The new rack arrives today (some assembly required  :wink ) and the Rockets arrive the middle of next week. Cabling is a nightmare but I will take my time and try to make it tidy. Power consumption for El Diablo will be ~ 3,500W at the wall.  :holy-moly but I can shut down 2 other servers (~ 2,000 W) so the net is not as bad as one might think. WARNING: When I fire it up the lights may dim on the West coast of California.  :jester:

I am having fun ....  :golf
